Stunningly beautiful, the Scottish Highlands is a region of rugged mountains, brooding lochs, quaint fishing villages and the home to Britain's highest mountains.
The Highlands is one of the most beautiful and sparsely populated areas in Europe; bleak, windswept mountains peer down over boggy, desolate moors; dense forests hug the mountain slopes while deep and mysterious lochs burrow into the mountains from the sea. Loch Ness is Scotland's longest lake famous worldwide for 'Nessie', the Loch Ness Monster, a strange aquatic animal that has been seen regularly since its first sighting in 1933. A mystery indeed, it's at least 86 years old but doesn't look a day over 40.
But at every turn, you cannot fail to be awed by the grandeur of the peaks, the rocky headlands and choppy waters of the Western Isles, or the stunning turquoise waters and white sand beaches of the west coast. Don't forget: there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.
